1.5.9. Anti-blocking system (ABS)

At emergency brake application of the car it is necessary to provide reduction of a brake way and preservation of control over the car. The probability of loss of controllability and blocking of wheels of the car because of loss of coupling of wheels with a paving depends on type of a paving, weather conditions and actions of the driver. The anti-blocking system (ABS) is intended for prevention of the similar phenomena.
Increase in traffic safety is reached because ABS prevents blocking of wheels when braking even if the driver too strongly and sharply presses a brake pedal, allows to keep controllability of the car and not to lose control over it. ABS does possible an obstacle detour at simultaneous braking.
Besides, ABS provides reduction of a brake way in case of bad coupling with a paving (a wet, slippery or non-uniform paving).
In spite of the fact that the anti-blocking system allows to drive surely the car in the course of braking, it cannot improve the performance data which are physically connected with conditions of coupling of wheels with the road. It is necessary to follow usual rules of safe driving of the car, for example to support a safe distance to ahead the going car.
The fact that the car can ensure high traffic safety, does not mean that it is possible to risk unreasonably.
At inclusion of ABS some vibration of a pedal of a brake will appear. These feelings warn that coupling of wheels with the road reached the limit and it is necessary to correct management style the car according to road conditions.
